Set in private grounds with gated access Villa Mema offers, in our opinion, probably the best accommodation available in the whole of Aghia Efimia – Penelope Cruz chose to stay here during the filming of Captain Corelli’s Mandolin.
The location is outstanding, set on a pine-clad hillside there are superb views across the
whole of Sami Bay and the sunrise over Ithaca has to be seen to be believed.
The open plan villa provides superb levels of comfort. There is a huge air-conditioned lounge/sitting area exquisitely furnished with comfortable sofas, large windows offer lovely views across the pool area to the bay beyond and from the sitting area a French window opens on to a huge terrace that fronts the villa. The well-appointed dining kitchen is complete with a large fridge/freezer and full cooker and a very pretty shower room completes the ground floor accommodation.
An open plan wooden staircase leads to the first floor. The main double bedroom has lovely
views of Aghia Efimia and doors open on to a private balcony with the most magnificent aspect, the
whole bay spread before you - there can be few better places to greet a new day. The second twin
bedroom again has double doors opening on to a private balcony with delightful views of Aghia
Efimia bay. There is a very pretty full sized bathroom off the hallway and to complete this
charming villa a door gives access to a beautiful tranquil roofed terrace; here is the perfect spot for
relaxation and quiet contemplation, surrounded by pine trees and presented with that stunning vista.
More tempting still is the swimming pool just a couple of steps down from the terrace. A large paved patio area with loungers and tables surrounds the lovely pool, which enjoys the sun well into the late afternoon - you will never tire of the views from here.
At the side of the villa is a delightful shaded area and just to the rear of this a large barbeque is provided - just perfect for those al fresco meals on lazy evenings, a truly magical place to relax in.
